Welcome! My name is Tiffany K. Chiu, and I am a Partner at Modern Wealth Law, APLC. Prior to joining Modern Wealth Law, I ran my own estate planning firm for over a decade. There, I guided a range of clients from singles building their financial portfolio to high net worth couples and business owners strategizing the transfer of wealth. I also navigated trust and probate administration with clients who experienced the loss of loved ones. Over years of practice, I experienced how an effective, enforceable and comprehensive estate plan was essential to minimize grief and conflict after the passing of a family member or friend. I developed a passion for estate planning – to educate my clients who wanted to protect their families and to be educated by experts in the field who could help me better serve others.
I was raised in Southern California by immigrant parents who started their own business. I learned to speak Mandarin and witnessed the hard work it took to succeed. I was taught to respect the wisdom of older generations and the importance of transferring both wealth and values to the next generation. The estate plans I customize reflect my background, not only by including the efficient transfer of assets, but also my client’s wishes to impart their beliefs onto their children. My family’s small business also helps me understand the intricacies of family dynamics in connection with succession, particularly when some family members (me!) choose to forge their own paths.
I attended UCLA as an undergraduate. There, a First Amendment course sparked my love for the law. I went on to study at Loyola Law School where I received a full scholarship as a Dean’s Scholar. I graduated at the top of my class and started working with a national law firm as a tax associate where I advised clients on the tax implications of business restructuring and generational transfers. I reviewed documents related to formation, financing, reorganization, conversion, and dissolution of business entities. My expertise in tax planning has allowed me to advise clients on tax consequences related to transfers.
I love spending my free time with my husband and 3 children. Together, we enjoy being part of and serving our church, staying active, and taking advantage of our proximity to the beach and the slopes. I like running and ran my first marathon in 2019. I love experiencing new things – cities, activities (except for crafts), food, drinks – but also enjoy reading and watching old episodes of West Wing.
