With an “Advance Health Care Directive” or “Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care Decisions,” you authorize another person (your “Agent”) to make your medical decisions for you when you are no longer able to make such decisions yourself. Your physician can act on your Agent’s orders without incurring liability for doing so. Your Directive can express your wishes about being kept alive on life support systems if you are in an apparently permanent coma or where there is no apparent hope of a recovery. It can also express your wishes regarding organ donations and the disposition of your remains.
